Insurance & payment at Lambton Dental

We accept all major Canadian dental insurance carriers, direct-bill where your plan allows, and are a provider for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). Bring your plan details and we handle the paperwork.

How insurance works at Lambton Dental

The front desk gathers your plan details when you book so we can confirm what your coverage includes before you sit in the chair. For most Canadian dental plans we submit claims electronically on your behalf and collect only the portion your plan does not cover at the visit. Where a plan does not permit assignment of benefits, you pay in full and we help you submit for reimbursement.

For larger treatment we prepare a written estimate and, if you would like, send a pre-determination to your carrier so there are no surprises. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so we always confirm the specifics against your policy rather than making assumptions.

Plans and programs we work with

Bring your plan details to your first visit and we take it from there. We work with:

  • All major Canadian private dental insurance carriers, including workplace and individual plans.
  • The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), billed through Sun Life for eligible residents.
  • The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), billed through Medavie Blue Cross for refugees, protected persons and other eligible groups.
  • Second-carrier coordination of benefits when you and a family member each have coverage, so both plans contribute to the covered portion of your care.

Coverage under any plan depends on your eligibility, the services provided and the plan year, so we confirm each visit rather than promising a specific amount, and we send a pre-determination to your carrier before any larger treatment begins.

What to expect at your first visit

  1. Share your plan details when you book

Your carrier, policy number and member ID let us confirm coverage before you arrive.

  2. Bring your card and photo ID to the visit

If you are on CDCP or IFHP, bring the member letter or coverage confirmation from your program.

  3. We confirm coverage in real time

The front desk verifies eligibility and, for larger treatment, walks you through an estimate.

  4. Care happens

The dentist explains what is recommended, what is elective and the order it should happen in.

  5. We bill your plan directly where allowed

You pay only the portion your plan does not cover; we submit the claim electronically.

What insurance covers and what it does not

Dental insurance covers a defined set of services, up to limits set by your specific plan. Preventive care such as exams, cleanings and X-rays usually has the highest coverage, restorative work such as fillings and crowns often has a co-payment, and elective cosmetic work is typically outside the covered list. Deductibles, annual maximums and frequency limits (for example how often a cleaning is paid for) all affect what your plan pays on any given visit.

Coverage under CDCP and IFHP is set by the federal program, not by Lambton Dental, and both programs have service lists, annual maximums and prior-approval requirements for larger treatment. We check your specific coverage before treatment so you know your portion in advance, we send a pre-determination to your carrier for larger treatment, and we never bill for something that is not clearly covered without discussing it with you first.

Direct billing, estimates, and payment

We direct-bill your dental insurance where your plan permits, so at the end of the visit you pay only your portion instead of paying in full and waiting for a reimbursement cheque. For CDCP and IFHP we bill Sun Life and Medavie Blue Cross directly and collect any co-payment at the visit.

For treatment beyond routine care we provide a written estimate that shows the expected coverage and your share of the cost, and we can submit a pre-determination to your carrier before we begin. Payment plans for larger treatment through a third-party financing partner are available on approved credit — see payment plans for details.

For most private plans and for CDCP and IFHP we direct-bill the carrier, so you pay only the portion your plan does not cover at the visit. If your specific plan does not permit assignment of benefits, we help you submit the claim so your reimbursement arrives quickly.

Your out-of-pocket amount depends on your specific plan, the services you receive and any annual maximum you have already used. For anything beyond a routine cleaning and exam we provide a written estimate, and for larger treatment we send a pre-determination to your carrier before we begin.

Yes. Many of our patients pay out of pocket, and our fees follow the current Ontario Dental Association suggested fee guide. We review your options and, for larger treatment, offer payment plans through a third-party financing partner on approved credit.

Your dental insurance card or plan details, a piece of photo ID, and a list of any medications you take. If you are covered under CDCP or IFHP, bring the coverage letter or member details from your program so we can verify eligibility and bill directly.

Cosmetic treatment such as whitening, veneers and elective smile makeovers is generally not covered by dental insurance. Where a procedure has a functional component, part of the cost may be covered — we confirm this with your carrier in advance and provide a written estimate.
