Family dentistry at Lambton Dental
Family dentistry at Lambton Dental means one calm, warm clinic that takes care of everyone — from a toddler’s first cleaning to a grandparent’s crown. We schedule family members together whenever we can, so you spend less time juggling appointments and more time on the rest of your day.
What does family dentistry cover?
Family dentistry is not a single procedure — it’s the way the whole practice is set up so that one family can come here for everything routine. That includes gentle exams and cleanings for children, teens and adults; digital X-rays when the dentist needs to see between or below the teeth; tooth-coloured composite fillings; sealants and fluoride for younger patients; and a written treatment plan for anything larger.
Because we see the whole family, the dentist can spot patterns early — a grinding habit developing in a teen, an emerging bite concern in a child, or a recurring cavity risk in an adult — and adjust the plan for each patient. When something falls outside routine care, such as a same-day emergency or a specialty consultation, we have systems in place to handle it under the same roof.
When family dentistry is the right fit
Family dentistry is a good fit when:
- You’d like to book children, teens and adults on the same day so the whole household can visit together.
- You’d rather have one dentist who knows your family’s history than juggle separate practices for each age group.
- Your children are transitioning from a first-visit or infant appointment into full cleanings, and you’d like continuity of care.
- You’d like a single office to coordinate insurance claims for every family member.
- You want a warm, calm environment where children, teens and older adults all feel comfortable.
If your child is very young, please see first-visit and infant exam. If your child is three and up, children’s dentistry describes what a typical visit looks like. Adults can start with a comprehensive exam.
What to expect at a family visit
- 1
Coordinated booking
Tell reception who is coming and roughly what each person needs, and we arrange the visits so the family is seen together where possible.
- 2
Individual attention
Each family member is seen by a hygienist and the dentist in the appropriate operatory, with the visit paced for their age and comfort.
- 3
Full exam and cleaning
The hygienist cleans and polishes the teeth, and the dentist checks the teeth, gums and bite. Digital X-rays are taken only if the dentist needs to see between teeth or below the gumline.
- 4
Prevention
Fluoride varnish for younger children, sealants for newly erupted permanent molars, and coaching for adults on gum care are offered as needed.
- 5
Treatment plan
If anything is found that needs follow-up, the dentist explains it clearly to the parent and, where appropriate, the child, and provides a written plan with a cost estimate before booking.
- 6
Recall together
The team books the family's next recall visits together so future appointments continue to line up around your schedule.
For anxious family members of any age, nitrous oxide and oral sedation options are available after the dentist reviews health history. See our sedation options page for more.
Continuing care between family visits
Most of what protects a family’s teeth happens at home. The hygienist and dentist send each family member home with a routine that suits their age — including brushing technique, floss, mouthrinse where useful and simple diet notes. When the whole family follows a similar rhythm, home care tends to be more consistent for everyone.
Between visits, we’re here for the little things: a filling that has come loose, a chipped edge, a toothache that wakes someone up, or a child’s fall that involves a front tooth. Call the office and we will fit the affected family member in. See our emergency hub for what to do outside of hours, and use our regular adult cleaning page to book any adult recall.
Cost, insurance, and CDCP / IFHP coverage
The cost of a family visit depends on how many people are being seen, what services each person needs and whether X-rays or fluoride are indicated. The dentist provides a written estimate for anything beyond routine cleaning and exam, and financing is available for larger treatment plans through a third-party partner on approved credit.
We accept all major Canadian dental insurance carriers and direct-bill wherever the plan allows, so each family member pays only their portion at the visit. Lambton Dental is also a provider for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP); coverage under these programs depends on eligibility and the services provided, and we confirm coverage before the visit.
Our payment options page explains billing openly for families without insurance.
For larger treatment plans, monthly payment plans through a third-party financing partner are available on approved credit — ask at your consultation or see our payment options.

Frequently asked questions about family dentistry
Can the whole family be seen on the same day?
Yes, whenever the calendar allows. Tell reception who is coming, roughly what each person needs and any scheduling preferences you have, and we arrange the visits so the family is seen together. Evening and weekend slots are available and are often the easiest for families to attend together as a group.
Do you take patients of all ages?
Yes. We welcome patients from infants and toddlers through school-age children, teens, adults and older adults. Different ages see different types of appointments — a knee-to-knee infant exam, a full cleaning for a child or teen, a comprehensive exam for a new adult patient — but all under one roof and coordinated by the same dental team.
Do you accept CDCP for the whole family?
Lambton Dental is a provider for the Canadian Dental Care Plan and welcomes eligible patients under CDCP. Coverage under CDCP depends on each family member’s individual eligibility. We confirm your family’s coverage before the visit and explain any co-payments openly so there are no surprises when the visit is over.
Do you offer emergency appointments if a family member has a toothache?
Yes. When the schedule allows, the dentist sees urgent toothache and broken-tooth patients the same day. Call the office at (416) 666-3700 as early in the day as you can and we will fit the affected family member in. See our emergency hub for what to do outside of hours as well.
Do you speak my family's home language?
Our team collectively serves patients in English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Ukrainian, Mandarin and Cantonese. Please tell reception when you book which language you would prefer, and we will match you with a team member where possible or arrange a translator to help the visit go smoothly.
Can I book online for multiple family members?
Yes — you can book separate slots online and note in the appointment request that they are for the same family. If it is easier, call the office at (416) 666-3700 and reception will arrange the visits together and try to line them up on the same day and at the same time where possible.
How often should each family member come in?
Every six months for most children, teens and adults, with some higher-risk patients coming more often on a schedule the dentist and hygienist recommend. Older adults and patients with a history of gum concerns often benefit from a three- to four-month recall cycle, which is set case by case at your visit.
